Scallops dearer
PA Wellington A recommendation to extend the Nelson scallop season will be made to the Minister of Fisheries (Mr Bolger). Also, a 30c price rise, to $6.30 a kilogram, retail, has been agreed between processors and fishermen.
Meeting in Nelson, the Southern Scallop Advisory Committee has decided to recommend that this season’s closing date be put back from February 15 to 28, because the season opened two weeks late this year.
