Heathcote election

Sir, — I was interested to read in an advertisement in the “Observer” that a group known as “Heathcote County Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association” recommended my candidacv for the Cashmere riding. I am very interested to know that this association exists. It is not listed in “Help.” I am keen to promote greater interaction between council, council staff, and residents. I have, however, never heard of the Heathcote County Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association and I note that they give only a Post Office box number in Sydenham as an address. A circular under their auspices delivered into letter-boxes last night denigrates people with a “cause,” and candidates’ efforts to get to know electors and their wishes. Surely two ways electors can use to make decisions between people are the issues on which they stand, and personal acquaintance with candidates. Experience which they call for, comes and is needed in many guises. — Yours, etc.
