Abortion law

Sir, —Mr Latter, member of Parliament for Marlborough, quote' on your front page on Thursday, refer. to a group of citizens, in which I am named as a member, as “extremely silly people.” Silly I may be, but not silly enough to accept an evasive reply from a po'itician at a public "discussion,” especially after discovering the full facts of the matter. All that aside. 1 hope that Mr Latter will not allow himself to be pushed from one side of the abortion controversy to the other on the strength of his emotional reaction to the personalities present in each “camp.” The life, and the quality of that life, of a woman and of the fertilised ovum, implanted embryo or unborn baby she is carrying, are worthy of the most careful and compassionate thought.—Yours, etc, K. D. GATWARD. Blenheim. September 29, 1977.
