Midnight, on the Takahe Stud, found an uninvited visitor. Thunder, angered by the sight of his now stabled mares, reacted with the instincts of a challenged leader. Dust and dirt rose as flashing hooves
“Quick, Penny, this way,” shouted Garth, as they both ran towards the stables. “They have gone,” said Garth, after a quick inspection of the stables.

First one, then another, of the mares responded, until finally the whole lot were acknowledging the commands
“So are the geldings and old Baldy, Dad,” said Penny, as she joined her father. “What happened?” “Thunder has taken over the herd,” replied
of the magnificent animal that had become their leader. He had summoned them—and get to him they would. The sound of breaking timbers was added to the general din as stable doors were shattered by flailing hooves.
Garth. “I just hope old Baldy does not challenge him.” “Why, Dad?” Garth left his daughter’s question unanswered . . .
