Two unions get wage rises
Glue workers in Auckland and Canterbury have gained a 10 per cent wage increase and about 600 chemical manure workers in the: South Island have gained an ! 8.7 per cent increase. The increases were agreed upon by employers in con-: ciliation talks in Christ- 1 church. The awards weribl negotiated by the Meat. Workers’ Union under its relatetd trades section. ' The union’s secretary {Mr F E McNulty) said that there were also adjustments in allowances, and a new development was the request for medical schemes to be incorporated in awards. The medical schemes will be investigated during the currency of the awards. Mr McNuity said such! schemes would provide fori hospitalisation sickness: benefits and death benefits at! the expense of the employer. He said there was also some progress in requests for travel allowances. In the! chemical manure industry alii companies now' provided I travel arrangements of some? kind according to the particular circumstances.
