‘Spiral’ short of funds
! Lack of money is threat-, Idling continuation of “Spj-1 Irak” the quarterly women's art magazine published in| Christchurch. To raise funds; the magazine has organised a women's poetry reading for women. It will be held on Saturday evening, September 10 at the old University site Students’ Union building, now the Environment Centre. In spite of receiving a literary fund grant of $l5O the magazine is having ! difficulty meeting its finanIcial commitments. The collective has much i good women’s work waiting ■to be published but it cannot go ahead with further copies until the last printing bill has been paid, said a spokeswoman. "We have two mam problems.” she said. “One is the nerenmal shortaee of soon.'
jsors for the arts, the other I is that ve look for contributions and support from | women only — and they j 'tend not to be the wealthiest, members of the community.” : Members of the collective.' Christchurch women poets.; and any interested women i would read their work on Saturday evening. It was evident from the amount of work received for “Spiral” that poetry was a vital medium of expression for women, and need not be limited to professionals. An all-women environment was a nurturing space for those women who had observations and life-styles to share. This had been demonstrated by the successful woman artists’ environment held at the Canterbury Society of Arts gallery in conjunction with the 1977 United Women’s Convention, ishe said.
