Future of housing
PA Wellington The future of housing finance in New Zealand will be the topic of the Real Estate Institute’s first symposium, to be held in Rotorua on September 21. The institute’s president (Mr Tom Molesworth) said that the time had come for the institute to take a leadership role in this area. “As pressure has increased on sources of mortgage finance, comment on the future of the housing market has become increasingly nega-
tive,” he said. Positive ideas for improvement have appeared from time to time, but they have been sporadic and unco-ordinated, he said. The Director-General of the Housing Corportation, Mr Ted Babe, will speak on the State’s role in housing finance, an Auckland solicitor, Mr Bruce Slane, will talk about the role of the private investor, and a Victoria University economist, Mr Bob Stephens will look at the problem from the viewpoint of the firsthome seeker.
