Mr Don censured for S.A. comments

The North Canterbury Rugby Sub-union has censured the chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union (Mr Ron Don) for statements he made during his trip to South Africa with a group of All Blacks.

The sub-union says it does not support the statements and actions of Mr Don “because of the wide implications they have for New Zealand in the present world situation.” On his arrival at Pretoria, Mr Don said that in spite of the Gleneagles agreement, feelings in New Zealand had swung South Africa’s way.

Mr Don's actions were raised at the sub-union’s half-yearly meeting of club delegates by Mr D. H. Warning, of the newly formed Ashley Rugby Club.

Mr Wareing said he was concerned about the international effects of Mr Don’s comments.

Delegates unanimously endorsed Mr Wareing’s comments and a motion censuring Mr Don was entered in the minutes.
