A HELPING HAND FOR THE E.E.C.

It sounds a little unreal but it is true. Meat companies in New Zealand have been busy upgrading freezing works to meet the requirements of the E.E.C. Now in the E.E.C. New Zealand technical assistance is being sought to help upgrade slaughtering facilities in Britain to bring them up to E.E.C. requirements. A Wellington consulting engineering firm, Morrison Cooper and Partners, has not only secured extensive work in the United Kingdom but is soon to open a branch there under the management of a resident partner, Mr B. J. Wakelin. Commenting on his company's activity in the United Kingdom, a

spokesman for the firm said he found it staggering that the expertise was apparently not available in the United Kingdom. It was ironic, he said, because New Zealanders who were trained in the United Kingdom were now returning there to lead the meat industry in its upgrading programme. Mr Wakelin was chief mechanical engineer for Morrison Cooper and Partners from 1967 to 1973 in charge of all mechanical aspects of expansion programmes in a number of freezing works. Since 1973, as a partner, he has worked on local and overseas meat industry development projects.
