Cash would hit right note
Nine bells have been given to the Christchurch Cathedral, buf four are still needed. If no-one comes forward with the money for the extra four bells, they will be paid for from the Cathedral Renovations Fund. The Dean of Christchurch (the Very Rev. M. L. Underhill) said that the fund had reached $380,000, still
$20,000 short of its target. Cast into each bell will be the names of the giver, and the name of the bell. The lettering made a slight difference to the tone, and it must be accounted for before the bell was cast, Dean Underhill said. Whatever the outcome, the bells would be shipped from England within a year, he said.
