Control centre
Wellington reporter The Government plans to set up a fisheries control centre to monitor foreign fishing-vessel activity within New Zealand’s proposed 200-miie exclusive economic zone. It will be run in Wellington by the Fisheries Management Division of the Ministry of Agriculture
and Fisheries. The centre is intended to receive, process, and analyse fisheries information, trace patterns of fishing activity, monitor licensed fishing vessels, and coordinate action to stop unauthorised fishing and related support activities. Information will then be channelled into the centre from air and sea patrols, fisheries offices, port agriculture officers. Ministry research, and technological vessels, merchant vessels, and commercial air companies.
