They are, from left, the commission’s deputy chairman, Mr J. D. Murray, S.M., of Dunedin, Mr Justice Beattie, of Wellington, and Mr Mark Vickennan, research officer and personal assistant to the commission, of Wellington. They were in Australia to study various aspects of the Judicial system. They spent most of their time in Sydney and in Adelaide, where they looked at the functions of local and district criminal courts, the role of the Justices of the Peace and the levels at which Supreme Court judges could work singly and collectively. They will return to
New Zealand this month, hating also visited Britain
and Canada.
