More holiday pastimes Whistle

You can make your own whistle. Find either a stiff piece of plastic tubing (the soft sort will not do), or a cardboard tube. You also need cellophane, glue, and a skewer. Place the cellophane at one end of the tube and cover it. Glue firmly in place. Use the skewer to punch eight holes at equal intervals along the tube. Now put the pipe to your lips and press them against the cellophane. Hum loudly into it and cover the holes one by

one with your fingers so that you make different notes.

Here are two ideas Firstly, a snake puppet You need a long, narrow bag, red wool, and cray ons. The flat bottom of th: bag is your snake's face, so paint eyes on it. Oo not put his mouth hejb, though. Draw him a curved mouth a little furthtr down, near the top of tie long side of your bag. Make a small hole in the centre of his moiih and thread the red wool through it. This is iis tongue. Paint his boiy. Put your arm inside :he bag and make the snake's longue move up ind down. Secondly, for a funny man’s face or rrask you need a paper bag (or an old cornflake paciet), paints or crayons, ?ipe cleaners, corrugated ptper. wool scraps, glue, scisiors, and a cork. Make hair for the 'man around the flat-bottaned end of the bag. You can use wool scraps or strips of papers ana glue (hem onto it. Next, paint his eyes and glue on a cork nose, or make one out of cardboard. Make his spectacles from the pipe cleaiers. Cut out teeth from the corrugated paper and glue them around his moutl.
