from some showers in the ranges; cool. Canterbury: Strong southerlies, lighter winds inland; rain and hail, snow down to about 300 m; very cold. Outlook: Cold, showery weather about the Canterbury and Marlborough coasts; fine in Buller and Westland; becoming fair elsewhere.
