Avon wins replayed Rules game
Kangas’ lead in the John Wain Shield competition for Australian Rules was cut to 2-1 on Sunday. Avon won the replayed third match, 65!61 (10 goals and five ibehinds to eight goals and 13 behinds). The outstanding Avon plavers were Brian McLean and Shane Chivers, and Geoff Henderson and Jeff Wilkins stood out for Kangas. However, the feature of the match was that it was umpired by a top Melbourne official. Don Leys, who was in Christchurch on holiday. IHe considered the hard, fast game. which was distinguished by high marking and good handling, was at least as good as country matches in Victoria.
