Stockwell loaded
PA Rotorua Blair Stockwell, the winner of the Mayros cycling race from Auckland to Tauranga on Saturday, may have had problems with his luggage when he returned home to Christchurch. Stockwell had to find room for a large dinner set, an afternoon tea set and a crystal goblet and glasses, which were among the trophies awarded him. And to ease the pains of the tough ride there was a $lOO cheque plus $2O in cash awarded to all South Island riders, and a further $2O, including a refund of the $lO entry fee, for finishing in Tauranga.
Athletics.—Filbert Bay! (Tanzania) won the 1500 m event at an International meeting at Rietl, Italy In 3mfn 37.45ec, ahead of Khalifa, of Sudan.
