Hamilton leads kart win
John Hamilton turned up trumps for Canterbury in the triangular kart series between Canterbury. Otago and Southland. He was responsible for some excellent team racing by Canterbury. Hamilton started from the back of the 18-kart grid in each of the six heats, but worked his way through the field and assisted his team mates at the same time. In ail heats the Canterbury colours usuailv showed tn the first five placings. The strong challenge from Southland never eventuated, apart from in the first heat. Otago, one driver short through illness, had the sendees of a top Canterbury driver, Colin Goss, and he did his best for Otago and proved one of the leading drivers. After the test, the Canterbury championships were held at the
Carr’s Road raceway. Drivers > raced in three heats and a final. I Richard Tapper was not un-! challenged in the 100 c.c. reed! final, but there was a good battle' for the minor placings over the: 20 laps. Gary Cook and Gary; Dixon filled the placings, but! Dean Hancock was in attendance and it needed the judge to decide the placings. John Hamilton was too good in the 125 c.c. modified class although he was helped when one of his hardest rivals, Paul Crichton, spun off in the third and sixth laps. Hamilton also won the "all In” rale at the end of the meeting. Results: Inter-provlnclal test — Canter, bury 470 points. Otago 303, Southland 196. Canterbury championships.— 100 c.c. reed: R.
