No tolls at all
Tunnel tolls will be abolished — but regular users had better be quick to avoid missing out. For two hours next month motorists can drive back and forth through the tunnel to their hearts' content, and it will not cost them a cent. It is all part of a radio 3ZB promotion celebrating its fortieth birthday. Yesterday the Christ-church-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority gave its approval to 3ZB's offer to pick up the tab for tunnel tolls between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on September 28. The authority's chairman (Mr V. G. Spiller) said he supposed the authority could not stop 3ZB paying the bill if it wanted to.
