Centre’s space fills up
About one-third of the space which will become vacant at the Arts Centre when the Christchurch Technical Institute moves out early next year has already been booked. The Technical Institute will vacate .35,000 to 40,000 sq. ft of space, all in good condition, according to the manager of the Arts Centre (Mr Brett Riley). “The Technical Institute spent quite a bit on the site when it moved in some years ago,” he said. Mr Riley said the Technical Institute occupied the old university registry, the old gymnasium, and some of the new buildings on the site. The Arts Centre sought cultural groups as tenants of the space available, and the one-third already taken had gone to such groups. “Our second preference would be for community service organisations, and our third would be for small professional offices,” Mr Riley said. “Professional offices would have to pay commercial rent, and their size would be limited.
