Yachts on course for long race
PA Portsmouth Fifteen yachts set off on Saturday on the first 10,700 kilometre leg of a round-the-world race that will end sometime next year. The wind shifted to the north the moment before the start, bringing out a mass of billowing multi - coloured spinnakers as the fleet took advantage of the stiffening breeze. Experts regard the first leg of the 43,000 kilometre race as something of a warmup for the tougher legs; through the Southern Ocean! and around Cape Hom. The, boats will call at Cape Town,; Auckland, and Rio de I Janeiro.
