Ready O’Ready wins

NZPA Sydney. The New Zealand-bred five-year-old, Ready O’Ready, a brother to the :ormer champion mare. Leilani. showed that he will be a force in the spring feature staying events with a great win in the Rossmore Welter Handicap (1600 metres) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.

Ready O’Ready made light of his 60.5 kg and wide barrier position to outclass his opposition. He was in fourth place on the turn, but had never been closer than three from tlie fence and looked to have a task ahead of him.

Kevin Langby pulled the whip on Ready O Readv and the big five-year-old dashed past Beau Pello at the 150 metres and was untroubled to beat that galloper by a length and three-quarters, with Malahlnt a half head away third.

Tommy Smith’s representative, Ernie Smith, was delighted with Ready O’Ready’s win and said the stable would set him for the A.J.C. Metropolitan (2600 metres) on October 3.

Another New Zealand-bred stayer from the Smith stable. Sir Serene gave He to some recent

dismal failures with a scintillating win in the Spring Handicap (2200 metres). Also ridden by Kevin Langby, Sir Serene took the lead shortly after straightening and won by four lengths and a quarter in 2 min 15sec. only half a second outside the course record.

Sir Serene (Hermes—Sweet Talk) finished a distant thirteenth in the Coffs Harbour Cup at his last outing.

Sir Serene beat Nlcewin with Bilgola Boy half a length away third. The three-year-old, Azandra, staked his claim for the A.J.C. Derby on October 1 with a stylish win in the Narellan Handicap (1600 metres). The Azemann—Chandra colt landed a fortune in big bets when he beat the favourite. Son of a Gun. by a neck with Flirting Prince naif a length away third. A top apprentice. Peter Losh, gave Azandra the run of the race and the colt went to the line in a manner which suggested he would improve further over a longer distance. His trainer, Arthur Sowden, was thrUled with the win as it gave him his first metropolitan success for some time.
