Huge arms deals
NZPA Washington The Carter Administration, which says it wants to reduce United States arms peddling overseas, has approved nearly 53400 M in sales since it took office seven months ago. The latest approvals were announced as the Pentagon sent Congress formal notification it plans to sell SUOOM in weapons and lo-gistic-training support to ‘five countries. President Carter has indicated his program to cut United States arms sales substantially will first be felt in the fiscal year of 1978, which begins on October 1. That will be his Administration’s first full fiscal year in office. United States arms sales have been diminishing gradually since they hit a peak in the fiscal year 1974 of! $16,000M.
