Council wants end to petition
The Heathcote County: Council will ask that a magisterial inquiry into a council by-election last October be abandoned for ' want of prosecution. A petition for such an inquiry was lodged by James Michael McKenzie, who was defeated by three votes when he stood for the county’s Cashmere riding. The seat was won by Mr R. J. Cunningham. ! Mr McKenzie asserted that ■ the returning officer failed to provide a count of the votes cast; that he failed adequately to inquire into the of the special Voters; and that he incorrectly disallowed six special votes, which should be allowed.
