Official report and prices
All descriptions of halfbred and crossbred fleece were un- ! changed on the rates of the Timaru sale on Tuesday, according to the official report of the first Christchurch wool sale of the season yesterday. Crossbred crutchings and short j oddments, however, ranged from firm to sellers’ favour. The report described the activity of the Wool Marketing Corporation as substantial—it entered bids on 19.066 bales or:; 80.3 per cent of the offering and had 10,418 (43.9 per cent! passed to it. Competition was very re. stricted on halfbred descriptions, but fairly general on most crossbred types, according to the report. Eastern and Western Europe were the main buyers with moderate support from' local mills and Bradford. “As expected for an early | season offering, the bulk of the: fleece wool was pre-lamb shorn, the staple length being on the | short side, stumpy, but sound i in spite of the very wet winter,) the style and colour were good, | but not as stylish as the offerings at Timaru, and particularly Dunedin.
