Drainage problems
Sir, — Because Clarendon Terrace has received adverse publicity, may I speak favourably for this area? Only a few houses are affected by flooding. The bulk of dwellings are at high level. Thus most are safe and dry. At street level, most residents suffer some inconvenience, as in other parts of Christchurch. Today I signed a petition about flooding and look forward to a cure-all in due course. Clarendon Terrace is a sunny, clean area. There is less smog because of a river breeze. Willow trees filter atmosphere. Home owners have a fine view. I know of no better area in which to live. In 11 years residence here, I have experienced only three large floods. My high-water mark shows each one to be progressively higher. They were the Wahine storm in April, 1968, the storm in August, 1975, and the storm last month. — Yours, etc.,
JOHN LESLIE. August 24, 1977.
