Rugby invitations
Sir, —Why must the hypocritical posturings of the Rugby Union be tnrust on the public every time South Africa is involved? The real issue, apartheid, is a straightforward South African Government policy that will not be changed by anyone but that Government. In New Zealand we have no Government policy on apartheid, in spite of the statements of politicians. Therefore, it is up to the individual. We either support and condone apartheid or we are against it. The conclusion to be drawn from this is that the Rugby Union does support apartheid and, in the absence of protest, so do New Zealanders.—Yours, etc..
M. J. ROBINSON. August 3, 1977.
