Connecting buses

Sir. — The Transport Board is prepared to spend $50,000 on advertising. Could the board please explain why a bus front Christchurch Airport arrives in the Square at 3.55 p.m., which is 10 minutes late for me to catch my connecting bus to the northern suburbs on Sunday afternoons. Surely, national and international passengers might expect connecting buses when they arrive in the Square. 1 use the buses five days a week, including Sundays. — Yours, etc., LEO OSBORN. July 15, 1977.

[Mr M. G. Taylor, General Manager of the Christchurch Transport Board, replies: “The reason for the failure of the airport bus on Sundays to connect with the regular departures from Cathedral Square at 45 minutes past each hour is that the round trip Square-airport-Square is scheduled to take approximately one hour and 15 minutes, and therefore does not fit into the hourly cycle. However, work is in hand to see if this service can be made to fit by cutting the round trip time to one hour. This will eliminate the discretion that the operator now has to delay his departure time a little to cope with a flight arriving five to Ip minutes late.”]
