Radio project for schools
Radio New Zealand will offer a human rights award to secondary-school students this year. Students will be invited to prepare radio programmes on any human rights issue in New Zealand or overseas. Brochures about the competition have been sent to all secondary schools.
The project was planned by the Concert Programme spoken features unit, and the producer, Lynne Alexander. has put many hours of research into it.
It is hoped that teachers will encourage group entries, and to this end schools have been provided with comprehensive guidelines, not only on the production of radio programmes but on possible sources of material for the project. Entries will be judged
by a panel comprised mainly of public figures, and the producers of the best three programmes will have the opportunity to assist in the final productions for radio.
These productions will be broadcast by the Concert Programme on Human Rights Day, December 10, and the winning entry will also be broadcast on the Community Network’s “Tonight” show.
