Typhoon Vera kills 25 in Taiwan
NZPA-Reuter Taipei Typhoon Vera has lashed northern Taiwan with winds of 212 km/h. killing at least 25 persons and seriously injuring 13 others. The winds toppled a steel bridge on to two buses, two taxis, and a private car. killing fixe persons and trapping nine others in the wreckage. At least 20 persons were injured in the port of
Keelung. tbout 36km north east of Taipei. Vera is churning west towards Taiwan’s offshore islands with powerful windf and heavy rains. A spokesman for th* weather bureau said the typhoon. the second to hit lat wan in s" days, had i radius of 195 km and woult yield a rainfall ranging he tween 150 and 200 niillime ters in the northern am eastern parts of Taiwan.
