President, Mr Richard’ , Nixon, received SIM from, |the head of the powerful; (Teamsters’ Union, Mr Frank ' Fitzsimmons, for his co-; operation in barring Jimmy j Hoffa, a former Teamster' president, from union office, “Time” magazine has said. | Mr Fitzsimmons took over j the Teamsters’ Union presidency from Hoffa in 1967' when Hoffa was jailed for interfering with a jury and! mail fraud. Mr Nixon commuted) Hoffa’s 13-year prison sen-' tence in 1971 on condition) that he take no part in run-! ning the union until 1980,! when the original jail term expired. Hoffa vanished from outside a Detroit restaurant on July 30, 1975, and is believed to have been executed by the underworld.
