Serhan wins Fiji gol f
ouva The Sydney-based professional George Serhan could not match his earlier brilliance yesterday but held on to win the 1977 Air New Zealand Fiji open golf tournament with a seven-under-par total of 281» Serhan, who had a sixstroke margin going into the final round, appeared to lack confidence in his short game. At the turn his lead was down to three strokes. But he had a magnificent recovery putt to salvage par on the tenth. This seemed to steady him and he followed with a birdie on the eleventh.
The New Zealander Richard Coombes, had putting problems and his challenge faded, easing the pressure on Serhan. Another New Zealand professional, Kim Southerden, carded yesterday’s best round, 68, to take third place on 288. Leading scores:—
281—George Serhan (Aust.), 72, 65, 69, 75.
287— Richard Coombes (N.Z.), 68, 73. 71, 75. , 288— Kim Southerden (N.Z.), 73, 76. 71, 68. 289— George Bell (Aust.), 76, 69, 69 . 75; Veramu Rokotavaga (Fiji), 73, 72, 74, 70. 290— Barry Vivian (N.Z.), 73, , 72. 70, 75. j i
