The Lyttelton Harbour Board < Is not getting overly excited fust ' yet alM»ut the line-up of container ships scheduled for Lyttei-! ton by the Wool Marketing Coipu rati on next season The corpora t-on’s shipping schedule, announced last Friday, lias 73 container-ship calls organised for Lyttelton for the United Kingdom. Northern European and Mediteiranean ports — two more than Port Chalmer>. On the United Kingdom schedule there will be 27 calls' at Lxttelon and 30 at Port Chalmers. On the northern Europe service there will be 27 calls to Lyttelton and 39 to Port Chalmers, and to the Med.terranean 19 calls to Lyttelton and two to Port Chaimers. Lyttelton's 73 calls represent a ship every fixe days, but the Lyttelton Harbour Board trade promotions manager (Mr N. D. Cullen* said he expected that many of the container ships calling would be loading for both United Kingdom ana European portri This would mean that the number of ships calling would bei somewhat fewer than the calls r sc'neduled. He said that there was no indication of the relative tonnages to be loaded at L'ttelton and Port (’balmers — the all-important, factor in terms of financial re-1 turn from container ships.
