Little interest in Melbourne
With the Sydney Stock Exchange closed for the Bank Holiday, little interest was being shown in trading on the Melbourne exchange.
Two stocks to stand out were Peko-Wallsend which rose 24c to 526 c and Central Norseman 12c to 412 c.
Sugars were firmer with C.S.R. gaining 7c to 305 c. The general disinterest in the market was seen in the banks where C.B.C. despite a reversal of nearly sAustloM on Friday did not budge from 160 c. Admittedly it had been anticipated, but again C.B.A. on higher dividend last week only gained one cent to 286 c. Coal and Allied on its take-over bid eased from 320 c to 308 c.
