'Long wait’ for Clifton residents
Residents of Clifton Hill; [affected by the recent slip ion Mulgan’s Track will problably have a long wait for a ‘satisfactory answer to their access problems, according ito Cr P. D. Dunbar, the {chairman of the Christchurch 'City Council works and ’traffic committee. . After a meeting with residents on Monday, Cr Dunbar had been hopeful of a solution before the week-end. “But I have been frustrated by the dfficulties of getting a legal ruling on the matter,” he said. “It now seems unlikely that the Earthquake and War Damages Commission will play any part in the expensive restoration and protection work necessary before the track can be opened on its original line.” ; The question of an altemaitive track was still under] study, but more time was I

Councillor Dunbar could not say when the repair I work on the hairpin bend in Clifton Terrace w'ould be finished, but he commended 1 the people who used the teri race for their constraint ] while the work continued. • “It will be some weeks ■ yet before the damage is /repaired,” he said.
