Carisbrook booze ban successful

PA Dunedin Tile Otago Rugby Union booze ban for the third rugby test at Carisbrook on Saturday worked without a hitch.

The secretary of the union (Mr M. Connolly) said after the match that there were no problems with the crowd, and no liquor had had to be confiscated. There were only a few cans in evidence in the ground. “This was very pleasing,” he said.

This was repeated by the police, who said that when people realised there was to be no liquoj in the ground, they accepted it.

There was not even a suggestion of another ugly incident such as occurred when the Lions played Otago, when play at the beginning of the second half had to be delayed because of a “beer-can war.”
