N.Z. men will play -S.A.

NZPA-Reuter Pretoria

The five New Zealand rugby players invited to play for a world team against a South African team in Pretoria next month are likely to take part, according to the Northern Transvaal Rugby Union.

“These players will obviously be advised to withdraw, but we are confident they will pay no attention to these requests. In fact, we expect some positive reaction from New Zealand some time this week,” a spokesman for the union said yesterday. Mixed trials to select the home team, which may be the first multi-racial rugby squad to represent South Africa, began in Pretoria yesterday. The spokesman did not name the 10 countries from which the world team would be drawn, but Gareth Edwards and J. P. R. Williams of Wales and Willy John Mcßride of Ireland have already said they will visit South Africa for the match, as individuals.
