Unrest in black townships
NZPA - Reuter Johannesburg Unrest has broken out again in two South African black townships, and in one policemen fired warning shots after two schools had been set alight, according to police spokesmen.
Trouble broke out in a black township outside Queenstown in the Cape Province, and in Soweto, near Johannesburg. Several policemen, and at least one civilian, were injured at Queenstown when a crowd hurled stones at the Nonesi and Van Coller policemen who arrived at primary schools after fire raisers had set classrooms alight, a spokesman said.
The trouble had lasted for about 10 minutes, and the crowd had dispersed when warning shots Were fired, he said.
