‘Better homes better nation'

PA Nelson The Country Women’s Institute organisation was now interested in cultivating and improving the rights and privileges it had won, the Dominion president (Doreen Flynn) told 600 delegates at its annual meeting yesterday.

“We believe better homes mean a better nation and we are also eager to help women of other lands. We no longer should use the phrase ’women’s rights,’ but instead speak of women’s responsibilities.” She said in her presidential address. “With our motto of ‘Home and Country’ our study theme for this year being law as it affects the home and family and one of our priorities being all that is best for the united family home life, then surely the next sphere of influence for most of us would be our home and family,” she said. Mrs Flynn suggested to the delegates that members should be prepared to take a more active interest in local bodies. “I am sure our members will always work together with friend arid neighbour l

not only in time of domestic; or civil emergencies, but in, the everyday sharing and: helping which promotes' peace and happiness in the community.” i

Mrs Flynn said apathy was becoming one of the most dangerous and delibitat-

|ing diseases today and asked I delegates if they were ! apathetic toward their children’s education, their communities and themselves. “It affects attitudes to work and manifests itself in reluctance to become involved in community affairs and personal problems,” she said. The conference continues today.
