The three-year-old’s time cut O. off Rambling Willie’s track record and was one second faster than the time of the first heat winner. Crash. However. B.G.’s Bunny went lame after the race and was scratched from the $212,500 final, won by Escort, which had finished second to B.G.’s Bunny in their elimination. Escort ran Imin 54.8 sec. Nat Lobell ran second in the final, with Crash in third place. Bold Mayo second NZPA Melbourne The featured 1200 m Kambrook Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday was convincingly won by Royal Champagne from the New Zealand-bred 2 to 1 favourite.
