Protection of mammals
PA Wellington A Mammals Protection Act, to be introduced in Parliament this year, will protect marine mammals in New Zealand’s territorial waters.
“It will provide the maximum protection for marine mammals, though the Minister will probably have discretion to issue licences for the taking of whales for culling purposes,” said the Deputy Secretary of Foreign Affairs (Mr J. V. Scott). He was speaking on his return from leading the New Zealand delegation to the International Whaling Commission conference at Canberra.
