Council call to share cost of track
The Christchurch City Council will ask Waimairi County Council to help with a proposed cycle track along both sides of Travis Road, a main route to Queen Elizabeth II Park. The road is the boundary between the two local bodies. A cycle count on the long, narrow stretch of Travis Road between Barkers Road !and Bassett Street found 'that 53 cyclists, mainly i children, used the route in an hour. The North New Brighton Residents’ Association has ; asked the City Council to i consider sealing one road \ shoulder for the exclusive : use of cyclists. Full excavation and reconstruction 'of the shoulder would be ‘needed, and some new shaping of the carriageway.
