Fishing boat missing
The fishing boat Scorpion has disappeared from Kaikoura. The 7.3 m boat, went missing from its south-wharf anchorage on Monday night. Its owner, Mr B. Harris, of the Esplanade, Kaikoura, was away at the time. The boat’s disappearance was reported to the police on Tuesday afternoon by his wife.
A diver, Mr R. Andrew, searched the sea bed at the anchorage and found the boat’s anchor chain.
It was thought that the boat may have drifted to sea on the outgoing tide but conditions in the bay at the time were calm. The boat is painted white, with a small cabin forward. Its registration number is LN6744.
