Twelve form new Right-wing party
NZPA-Reuter Salisbury Twelve Right-wing members of parliament have launched a new political party after being expelled from Mr lan Smith’s ruling Rhodesian Front.
The group’s interim leader, Mr lan Sandeman, said it would be called the Rhodesian Action Party, and would support any constructive moves towards a settlement of Rhodesia’s constitutional problems which “guaranteed, unequivocally, the permanence of all communities.”
The 12 were expelled by I the front last month for
opposing Mr Smith’s policies, including his acceptance of eventual black-majority rule. They were expected to be joined by Mr Des Frost, who resigned on Saturday as chairman of the Rhodesian Front amid acrimonious exchanges with the Prime Minister. There was no immediate indication, however, of formal links between the R.A.P. and Mr Frost, who attacked Mr Smith for “a total lack of leadership, planning and direction.” The R.A.P. statement said Mr Sandeman would head a steering committee to run the party until a congress was held.
