Big spillage of formalin
PA Wellington Wellington firemen yesterday morning spent an hour mopping up a formalin spillage in the Seddon block of Wellington Hospital. The formalin — a highly toxic and pungent chemical used as a disinfectant and preservative — fell from a trolley while it was being carried in a ward about 9.30 a.m. Patients on the second floor were moved out, as firemen began mopping up the three gallons of formalin spilt. They had to use breathing apparatus in the clearing up.
