Geoff Boycott not wanted?
NZPA London I Geoff Boycott’s failure to gain a place in the English test side to play Australia at Old Trafford on Thursday raises doubt about “whether he is really wanted at all,” according to the “Guardian’s” cricketing writer, John Arlott. Arlott writes: “Boycott is being made to wait for his
recall, which favours of punishment. “In cricket, some hard
feelings take a long time to thaw — some never do.” The team, which is the same side that played against the Australia at Lord’s in the first test, was chosen before Boycott made his sadly ill-timed duck for Yorkshire against the Australians on Saturday. “The fact is that, on merit, Boycott should have been chosen,” Arlott said. “Without him no England team at. the moment — or indeed for several years past — is as strong as it might be.”
