Ferries a selector

The long-serving St Albans and Canterbury medium-paced bowler, Ken Ferries, will be the convener of the provincial Rothmans under-23 cricket selection panel next summer.

A former Western Australia representative, Ferries appeared in 136 senior fixtures for St Albans from 1963-64 until an injury persuaded him to restrict himself to lower grade cricket last season. He captured 438 wickets, at 17.9, and scored 1343 runs.

Although Canterbury was blessed with an abundance of fine pace bowlers during Ferries’s career, his sheer consistency in 18 matches for the province earned him 78 wickets at 21.1. Ferries also had a top score of 44 against Northern Districts. The Rothmans panel should be well balanced. The other members are Don McKendry, who is also on the Shell Series panel, and Brian Adams, the convener of the Brabin Cup under-21 selectors.
