Rugby awards
Two members of the Christchurch Football Club’s under-19 team, Alistair Roberts and Tony Clark, have been chosen as the first recipients of the Guthreys Travel rugby scholarship. They will leave next month for Brisbane, where they will play for the under-19 team of the Brothers club.
The awards to the boys were announced last weekend. The Christchurch club sees the scholarship as a means of maintaining boys’ interest in rugby after they leave school. The awards will be made annually, with strong team spirit as a requisite for selection.
The scheme is a doublesided one, as two members of the Brothers club, Colin Milligan and Kevin Boland, are playing for the Christchurch under-19 side for three weeks.
