A.M. and S. buys zinc smelter
Australian Mining and Smelting, Ltd, has acquired, for an amount just in excess of SUSIOM, all the issued shares in Pacific Smelting Company, which runs a secondary zinc smelter in California.
The average annual capacity of the plant is about 40,000 tonnes of zinc-scrap feedstock, which is recycled to produce zinc oxide, zinc dust, and zinc metal. The company also sells some primary zinc metal and cadmium.
Pacific Smelting will be run as a continuing business under its own management, with Mr M. D. Schwartz as chairman and Mr A. Klatzker as president.
