Loan for pensioner housing
Wellington reporter Housing Corporation finance totalling $84,000 for Christchurch City Council rental housing for the elderly has been announced by the Minister of Housing (Mr Holland). The loan is for 24 relocatable single pensioner flats in Forfar Street, St Albans. The loan is in addition to a subsidy of up to $216,000 and means that the flat will be totally Government financed. It brings the number of Government funded pensioner flats built by the City Council to 1200. with a further 306 under construction. Mr Holland said that the units were special in that they were being built on land earmarked for motorway development. As the motorway was 15 to 20 years away, the council had” decided to use the land in the interim for pensioner housing. The flats would be built so that when the time came to put the motorway through. they could be relocated on a new jsite.
