Last lecture as chairman
The retiring chairman of the University Grants Committee (Sir Alan Danks) will! make his last official visit, to the University of Canter-i bury this week to inaugurate a series of monthly] public lectures on university: research. Sir Alan who is a former! professor of economics and I Pro Vice-Chancellor of the university will retire on ■ June 30.
His lecture topic will be “Research, the university and the community.” Topics to be covered by other speakers include the development of a battery-powered car, the development and use of sonic aids for the blind, chemical reactions in the upper atmosphere, and the generation of electricity from wind. Sir Alan will give his lecture at 8.15 p.m. on June 15, in room Al at the university.
